I'm blogging

I've been thinking about doing this for several weeks now, and I finally decided to take the jump. I'm blogging! I've struggled with this decision like it's some huge thing, like buying a new car or something, and I really hate it when people do that. Make something so small into a great big deal. I suppose that is what made me finally decide to start this.

My 17-year-old daughter has had the last five days off school, two of those days already planned in the school calendar, the other three due to weather. I called her this afternoon to remind her to bring the bulletin board that I made for the Dog Zone to work. You would have thought that I asked her to give me a million dollars or something. Apparently, I had reminded her last night, as she less than kindly told me. And, apparently, reminding a 17-year-old twice in a 12 hour period is not necessary.

A little later in the day, I remembered that I wanted to ask this same teenager st put the clothes that were in the washer into the dryer. But guess what? This mom was scared to call her again. So, I cheated and texted her. Call me a coward, if you will, but it was either text her or call her and hear her sigh again at what an annoying mom she thinks I am.

I think that's what finally made me take the plunge and finally start a blog. To have some kind of outlet for these kinds of days. A day that started like mine, knocking the cereal off the shelf in the pantry, thus spilling an open bag of powdered sugar all over me and the floor of the pantry. A day like mine, when the first call I take at work is from a woman who was half crazy because she didn't know whether to take her garbage out on Martin Luther King day. A day like mine where everyone at work, including me, is worried and nervous their jobs.

But, I made it through the day, came home after stopping a the dry cleaners, to a clean pantry and dry clothes. When my daughter came home from work, I asked her if she cleaned up the mess in the pantry. She said she did - and I didn't even have to ask!

So maybe I won't trade her in for another Chihuahua like I was ready to this afternoon.
